Sculpture — Marble — Sanitiser

HOLY

In times of crisis, people seek protection in government, religion, and technology. But as scientists and politicians struggle for a response to the coronavirus, more people are turning to faith. And as uncertainty and speculations took hold, our belief in masks, sanitizers, lockdowns, and social distancing almost became a religion in and of itself.

An installation visualizes our daily rituals during the pandemic and the almost spiritual importance they take in our lives. As an unexpected intervention in public spaces, it tries to recontextualize COVID-19 safety measures and religious symbolism.

BY BELIEVING IN THE ANTHROPOCENE, HUMANS THEMSELVES CREATE THE VERY MONSTROSITIES THAT WILL EVENTUALLY ANNIHILATE THEM. THE INTERNET CONSTRUCTS AN INTERCONNECTEDNESS THAT IS NO LONGER COMPREHENSIBLE. NATURE IS STRAINED UNTIL THE AFTERMATH HARMS US. THE MARKET GENERATES DYNAMICS NO HUMAN CAN CONTROL ANY LONGER. IRRESPECTIVE OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THERE ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH REASONS TO ENCOUNTER THE WORLD WITH PESSIMISTIC SENTIMENTS.
